Best Postgraduate Student Poster for Manuela Zimmer
May 6, 2024
Our research assistant, Manuela Zimmer, is currently on a research stay at the Auckland Bioengineering Institute (ABI) @bioengineering_institute in New Zealand. There she received an award for the "Best Postgraduate Student Poster" at the ABI Research Forum 2024. Her poster presentation entitled "Pitfalls in diffusion magnetic resonance imaging of skeletal muscles and opportunities for improvement" was selected as the best poster among more than 80 presentations by other PhD students. The photo shows Manuela together with the director of the institute, Prof. Merryn Tawhai.
In her presentation, she reported on various difficulties in imaging skeletal muscle using diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and how these can be avoided. This summarizes her experience working with the ABI and Mātai Medical Research Institute @matairesearch over the past few months. The MRI images will now serve as the starting point for a 3D finite element simulation of the calf muscles. We are already looking forward to the results!
